Bungle Bungle National Park, formerly known as Purnululu National Park, is a shiny pretty gem placed high on the mantle in Australia’s collection of ludicrous geological formations. And believe me, Australia is chock-full of them.

One of the best sunrise hikes I have ever done was at Keep River National Park. After an exhausted midnight arrival of the type that warrants no tent stakes (who uses those anyways…), no fly and an open flap with your leg exposed to all manner of sting-savvy creature; I arose early (unstung hero) with the itch.

I can’t be sure about the rest of the world, but in America, Australia is a mystical word synonymous with surfing, sand and steak. One is supposed to imagine a superhuman race of hardy beer drinking ruffians living it up in a tropical paradise. OR we think of Crocodile Dundee.
